Tom brings dedication to his job and to his clients, who have often become lifelong friends.
Tom is a devotee of the “ever doing more with less” philosophy of Buckminster Fuller, and has been giving it application throughout his career. He first took a computer to the field as a landman in 1980, lugging it and a seventy-five pound printer from hotel to hotel in little towns throughout the western states. He has run large scale title examination and lease acquisition projects on coal, uranium, oil and gas, and geothermal plays, and trained and supervised over twenty landmen. He has completed several large pipeline right-of-way acquisition and permitting projects.
Tom was working in the oil and gas business in western Colorado on September 11, 2001. Like everyone else, he was stunned. He was also acutely aware that his eighteen year old stepson was in the infantry, and would soon be called to render extraordinary service to his country. Tom realized that day that the best way he could support his stepson and perform his own service was to continue doing his job in the energy industry. He believes that all of us working on energy independence are working for the national security, and for the good of the rest of the world, and for the benefit of present and future generations. Tom maintained an independent general legal practice covering a wide variety of practice before he began to specialize in industry work.
He has since worked for Barrett Resources, Ballard Energy Company, Williams Companies, PetroCanada, Bill Barrett Corporation, EnCana Oil and Gas, Mobil, Tenneco and several smaller companies. He has experience negotiating and drafting agreements with farmers, ranchers, small business owners, banks, town and county governments, and government agencies all over the west.
Tom is new to Beatty & Wozniak, and despite a lifetime of independent work, feels comfortable and at home with the firm, is very impressed with the quality of the firm’s talent and support, and is excited about making a contribution. Currently he is focusing on title opinions.
Tom is a Denver native, and a product of Denver schools, including the University of Denver College of Law. In his spare time, he studies science and technology, enjoys the outdoors, reads in a wide variety of fields, occasionally writes short stories, and acts as a high school Mock Trial coach. He lives happily in the mountains with his wife, two daughters and other wildlife. |
