Raj Lahoti is an Associate at Beatty & Wozniak who focuses on regulatory strategy, data centers/grid connectivity, LNG, upstream and midstream operations, and environmental compliance, with a particular emphasis on oil-patch electrification, power supply, and utility coordination for energy and infrastructure projects. He brings a unique perspective to his legal practice as both a licensed attorney and a Professional Engineer in petroleum engineering.
Prior to earning his law degree and joining Beatty & Wozniak, Raj spent a decade as a petroleum engineer for an energy services company, where he specialized in the technical complexities of natural gas operations and hydrocarbon recovery optimization. His engineering foundation is rooted in high-level reservoir modeling studies and well pressure-temperature surveys, providing him with a deep, first-hand understanding of the physical assets and data-driven processes that define the energy industry.
Leveraging this technical expertise, Raj led regulatory and technical strategies specifically focused on methane quantification, emissions reporting, and environmental compliance. He served as a bridge between engineering data and legal requirements, advising operators on adherence to EPA New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) mandates. Raj applies this combined legal and engineering background to advising on electrification of upstream and midstream assets, including coordination with utilities, grid interconnection considerations, and regulatory frameworks governing power delivery to oil and gas operations. His background allows him to support audit readiness and proactive regulatory reporting with a level of technical precision that ensures both operational efficiency and environmental integrity.
Raj is actively involved in professional and industry organizations, including the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law, New Mexico Oil and Gas Association, Western Energy Alliance, Gas Processors Association, the Industry Advisory Board at Texas A&M University, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is a frequent contributor to industry conferences and has published on topics related to methane emissions, environmental compliance, and international emissions trading systems.
