Jake Haseman is a passionate industry advocate headquartered out of our Sheridan, Wyoming office. He has a wide variety of legal experience with a focus on regulatory and administrative work in front of the Wyoming Oil & Gas Conservation Commission, North Dakota Oil and Gas Division, and Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation, title examination, litigation surrounding oil and gas agreements and title issues, oil and gas transactions, eminent domain, and various surface issues for the oil, gas, and energy industries. He also has significant experience with general real property issues, real estate, coal, water, public lands, and federal environmental regulation. He also has a special interest in the ethical issues surrounding both the practice of law and the energy industry, and enjoys educating students and colleagues in the energy industry in various topics at educational seminars and conferences throughout the Rocky Mountain region.

Jake has been a shareholder with Beatty & Wozniak since 2022, and in private practice since 2008. Prior to practicing in Sheridan, Jake worked as an Honors Trial Attorney for the United States Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, Natural Resources Section in Washington, D.C. He is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Wyoming and an active member of his community, currently serving as a board member of the Sheridan County YMCA., and is an active alumni and supporter of both the University of Wyoming and the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

Jake was raised in Lafayette, Indiana. After receiving a natural resource-based undergraduate education in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and before receiving his legal education in Wyoming, Jake lived and worked in the Chugach National Forest in Alaska. Jake is an avid fly fisherman and enjoys exploring the mountains and open spaces of the West with his wife (Brenda), dogs, family and friends.

Representative Experience

  • Represent numerous operators in regulatory and administrative proceedings before state and federal oil and gas regulatory agencies in Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota, obtaining approval for thousands of projects, including: permits to drill, drilling and spacing units, well density, statutory pooling, unitization, surface commingling, and other regulatory proceedings
  • Manage acquisition of surface and right-of-way interests for numerous upstream and midstream projects in the Northern Rockies, including access and pipeline easements, eminent domain proceedings, and title evaluation and curative
  • Significant experience with energy development, operations and infrastructure on fee, state, and federal surface and mineral interests, including development and management of relationships with state and federal agencies and mission critical service providers
  • Significant experience with management and development of land, geology and engineering supporting and expert witnesses for a variety of energy-related and operational issues in regulatory, administrative, and litigation proceedings
